Trevor Keegan, OG

Height: 6’6
Weight: 320lbs.
Class: RS-Senior
School: Michigan

A former four-star recruit out of Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois, where he was the number one ranked prospect from Illinois and the 19th offensive tackle in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Keegan was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and was a part of two Joe-Moore-winning offensive lines. He was also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, and he appeared in 44 games with 37 starts at left guard. He played all but 37 snaps at left guard in his career.

He allowed just 41 pressure and three sacks through 1,230 pass-blocking snaps at Michigan. He only surrendered 11 pressures in 2023 with zero sacks. Keegan was a part of Michigan’s national championship offensive line during the 2023 season, and he’ll be at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Strengths

  • Massive size, wide base, and a filled-out frame
  • Solid overall athlete with light feet
  • Sufficient agility, change of direction, and lateral quickness with good acceleration
  • Plenty of experience pulling into space and climbing to the second level
  • Skip-pull, did well to stay square to target while maintaining balance
  • Turns tight corners to create seal - good agility in this area
  • Good overall footwork when pulling - solid angle discernment
  • Solid hand usage at the point of attack
  • Solid ability and drive on down blocks
  • Good overall play strength with sufficient pop on contact
  • Good overall ability in power/gap and counter
  • Solid blocker in zone who does well in combo situations
  • Smart processing in pass protection, calling out, picking up, and executing blitz/twist pickups
  • Good overall pass protector who uses his size to his advantage
  • Uses his length well, keeps his feet active, solid ability to adjust to counter moves
  • Punishing hits when he looks for work in pass protection
  • Tough player

Weaknesses

  • Naturally is high which leads to leverage issues
  • Chest gets over his toes too much when solo-zone run-blocking
  • Could frame his blocks more advantageously while zone run blocking
    • Struggled to frame Iowa’s Logan Lee in Conference Championship
  • Not overly bendy as an athlete
  • Can be slow into contact; when coupled with his high hat, this poses issues against squatty low-leveraged defenders
  • Did lose reps against power rushes that attacked his inner half and pulled his momentum forward to set up subsequent moves
  • Allows defenders to separate when in contact too frequently
  • Only adequate hand strength
  • Wish he had more pop on contact when kicking the EDGE out on counter
    • This was evident against Alabama
  • Could get more leg drive into contact, but gets stacked too often
  • Almost exclusively used as a left guard

Summary

Trevor Keegan is a solid power/gap interior offensive lineman who is capable, smart, and tough in pass protection while possessing the balance and sufficient movement skills to operate in space. He’s not an elite athlete, and his grip strength is only average, but his presence of mind and effectiveness in pass protection are valuable assets for any team. With his experience kicking into space and pulling, he could be an option for the Giants in the middle rounds of the draft.
