Strengths

  • Excellent athlete - balanced player
  • Good size and length - appears to have solid catch radius
  • Smooth change of direction, explosive, and light on his feet
  • Fast - 21.6 MPH
  • Shifty in space, quick and slippery
  • Feet and micromovements should help him develop his release package
    • Has good releases on tape
  • Vertical lean-off release - sells vert, deceleration
  • Does well to control his tempo throughout his routes
  • Deception on deep routes to create leverage
    • POST vs C3 (Q2 00:16 1st&19) was good example
  • Does a good job adjusting to the football in the air
  • Smooth in and out of breaks - explosive
  • YAC, sheds high tackles, quick COD in a phone booth
  • Not easy to tackle, even when he’s squared up
  • Spins off tackle attempts, isn’t easy to bring down
  • Competitive toughness is great

Weaknesses

  • Hands are an issue
    • Will extend away from his frame - but just stone hands
  • TERRIBLE contested catch rate (15.8%)
    • Strength at the catch point is a problem
    • 8 Drops - 11.3% drop rate
  • Route tree was limited - mostly ran GO and hitch routes
  • Only faced press on 14% of his snaps - mostly vs. off-leverage
  • Aligned on the outside to the right of the field on 86% of snaps
  • Must take better care of football when making men miss after the catch
  • Will be 24 during the next NFL season

Summary

Jamari Thrash played one year at Louisville after transferring from Georgia State. He’s an explosive - smooth - athlete who can create separation due to his light feet, subtle movements up his stem, and his overall athletic ability. His hands are a problem, as is his ability to secure contested catches. He mostly faced off-coverage and aligned on the outside and to the right of the formation. Although he is smaller than last year’s WR out of TCU (Quentin Johnson), they have similar profiles with comparable struggles.
