B/R's Draft Idea for New York Giants

The New York Giants are in a prime position to improve their roster this offseason but can do a lot more with one simple move if the board falls a certain way.

The New York Giants have four picks within the draft's top 70, a golden opportunity to improve a roster that last year vastly underachieved.

The Giants' list of needs spans virtually all position units. Still, in Bleacher Report's ideal draft scenario for the Giants, author Kristopher Knox suggests that in an ideal scenario, the Giants go on the offense to address their two most glaring needs on that side of the ball.

If New York hopes to see [Daniel] Jones succeed, it needs to upgrade his supporting cast quickly. The Giants saw Wan'Dale Robinson's potential in 2023 but still had one of the most underwhelming receiving corps in football. Their offensive line was also an issue.

The good news is that the Giants could trade down from No. 6 overall and still land a top receiver prospect like LSU's Malik Nabers and Washington's Rome Odunze or a top tackle like Notre Dame's Joe Alt or Penn State's Olumuyiwa Fashanu. They could add quite a bit of extra draft capital in the process, especially if they're dealing with a quarterback-needy team.

Knox points to a similar trade the Detroit Lions made just last season. The Lions traded back from the sixth overall pick and were still able to add a quality offensive player in running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Last year, the Detroit Lions added an extra second-round pick by moving from No. 6 to No. 12. A similar trade could see the Giants land a top prospect in Round 1 plus an extra player such as BYU tackle Kingsley Suamataia or Washington wideout Ja'Lynn Polk in Round 2. Adding extra premium draft capital would be big because New York has just $28.6 million in projected cap space and a host of significant needs.

The idea of the Giants trading back makes sense, especially if any of the top quarterbacks slide near the Giants' selection at sixth overall.
