The 2-4 New York Giants will host the 2-3-1 Arizona Cardinals for the 127th regular-season meeting between these one-time NFC East opponents.

The home team is riding high off a two-game winning streak, while the Cardinals are riding a two-game winning streak in which they outscored their last two opponents (the Bengals and Falcons by a combined score of 60-56.

The Giants are 47-21 against the Cardinals at home, but Arizona has won the last two meetings played at MetLife Stadium.

Pregame

Just a few more minutes before the inactive lists are announced, but it looks like the Giants will have quarterback Alex Tanney, tight end Garrett Dickerson, offensive lineman Chad Slade, offensive lineman  Eric Smith, and outside linebacker Chris Peace are the healthy catches.

Cornerback Corey Ballentine (concussion) and receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion)  will also be inactive. both were ruled out with concussions.

11:39 a.m.: The Giants' inactive list is official. No surprises, either.

Rookie Darius Slayton will start for Sterling Shepard. Slayton, who has averaged 15.8 yards per reception so far, has seen his stock on the rise.

For those who were critical of Shurmur for not confirming the obvious on Friday, the reason behind that was that there have been instances where players suffer setbacks in the Saturday walk-through and Shurmur likely didn't want to jinx anything.

Cardinals running back David Johnson is active, but receiver Christian Kirk is not. Here is the full list of Cardinals inactives:

  • WR Christian Kirk
  • RB D.J. Foster
  • LB Ezekiel Turner
  • LB Ramik Wilson
  • OL Lamont Gaillard
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • DL Zach Allen

The Giants passing game could be in for a huge day today. Then again, let's see what happens with Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson back.

12:10 p.m. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell just stepped onto the MetLife Stadium field.

12:35 p.m. A light but steady rain is currently falling at MetLife Stadium. Will be interesting to see how, if at all, this affects the game.

1:00 p.m. The Giants have won the toss and have elected to defer.

First Quarter

It's 56 degrees with light rain falling at kickoff.

10:01: Cardinals just converted on 4th-and-3 after having prior success on this drive converting two third-down drives. As expected, they've been running an up-te[p offense that at times the Giants look to be struggling to keep pace with.

Stat Alert: Kyler Murray has 37 completions in the 1st quarter this season -- 4th most among QBs in NFL

Kyler Murray (ARI) has 37 completions in the 1st quarter this season -- 4th most among QBs in NFL

8:21: Well that was fairly easy. Chase Edmonds had a huge hole on the left side that he burst through for a 20-yard touchdown run to give Arizona a 7-0 lead. That was a 13-play, 75-yard drive that chewed up 6:46 off the clock. Arizona converted two third-down plays and one fourth-down attempt.

That was a 13-play, 75-yard drive that chewed up 6:46 off the clock. Arizona converted two third-down plays and one fourth-down attempt.

7:36 Need a first down on 3rd-and-8? No problem. Daniel "Crazy Legs" Jons picks up 12 yards to move the sticks.

6:34: Chandler Jones gets by Mike Remmers for a sack.

5:49: The Cardinals get their first interception of the season by Jordan Hicks on a 3rd-and-13 after Daniel Jones telegraphs a pass for Golden Tate, who was double covered. Cards knocking on the door to increase their lead.

STAT: Daniel Jones has 6 interceptions on just 140 attempts (1 INT per 23.3 attempts) this season -- tied for 3rd worst of 28 Qualified QBs in NFL.

4:22: Chase Edmonds rushes for another 20-yard touchdown as ILB Alec Ogletree and S Jabrill Peppers struggled to get off blocks. The Cardinals convert the Daniel Jones turnover into seven points and take a 14-0 lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter.

3:17: The Giants go three-and-out on the next drive as the offense continues to sputter. Meanwhile, Daniel Jones was probably saved by Golden Tate who gave a little shove against Patrick Peterson to get him out of position to make the INT.

Side Note: The Giants haven't attempted a pass to tight end Evan Engram. The Cards have allowed almost 600 receiving yards to opposing tight ends this year, a league-high.

0:45: Giants defense called for offside and pass interference, the latter called against Jenkins. Unreal. Penalty puts the ball on the Giants' 30-yard line. And Shurmur is challenging the DPI call. I don't believe he's won such a challenge yet.

From my perspective, it looked like the receiver tripped over his own feet. But predictably, the officials don't overturn the call and the Cards have 1st-and-10 on the Giants' 30. And Pat Shurmur is 0-5 in challenges this year.

That's the end of the first quarter. Giants have three yards of offense; Cardinals have 141. Cards are up 14-0.

Second Quarter

14:02: The good news is the Giants stop the Cards on 3rd-and-15. The Bad news is Kyler Murray picked up six yards to put them into field goal range. Zane Gonzalez hits a 7-yard field goal attempt to make it 17-0 Cardinals.

13:25: Evan Engram sighting! The tight end picks up 6 yards.

13:05: Oh hey Saquon! Barkley breaks a tackle and picks up 20 yards.  Barkley has rushed for 20+ yards on 18 of his 298 carries (6.0%) since the start of last season -- best of 34 Qualified RBs in NFL.

11:36: Remember how I said all week that the Cardinals haven't been very good against opposing tight ends?

That hasn't changed as Daniel Jones threads the needle on a 28-yard touchdown pass to tight end Rhett Ellison up the seam to get the Giants on the board. That was Ellison's seventh score of his career and his first this season. Arizona 17-Giants 7.

10:46: Kyler Murray sacked at his 4-yard line by Markus Golden, who now has six sacks for the year. Golden, who now has 25.0 sacks in his career, also joins Justin Tuck, Carl Banks, and Michael Strahan as the only Giants defenders in franchise history to record at least a half-sack in six straight games within the same season.

STAT NOTE: Kyler Murray has been sacked 21 times this season -- 4th most among QBs in NFL.

9:59: With 4th-and-20 at the 4, punter Andy Lee's punt was blocked by Michael Thomas and recovered by Eli Penny in the end zone for a touchdown.

The last time the Giants recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown came November 10, 2013, when defensive end Damontre Moore blocked a punt and safety Cooper Taylor recovered it in a game against the Raiders.

We have a game folks! Cards 17-Giants 14.

Note from the Cardinals:

5:58: The Cards were called for a false start after lining up for a 51-yard field goal. Big penalty there.

3:19: The Giants have had two dropped passes on this drive, one by BEnnie Folwer and one by Evan Engram.

3:13: Will Hernandez gets called for a holding penalty which wipes out a big 32-yard run by Saquon Barkley.

2:00: We're at the two-minute warning. Jones just completed a 14-yard pass to Golden Tate. Remember, the Giants get the ball back to start the third quarter.

0;57: Giants are unable to get into field goal range to tie it up. After a holding penalty called against Mike Remmers, they ran Barkley wide and he was stopped. Not sure I understand the logic behind the play call there, but regardless, it's a missed opportunity by the Giants. We'll see if this drive comes back to haunt them.

And that will do it for the first half as the Cards kneel on the ball to run out the clock.

Halftime

Third Quarter

15:00: And the second half is underway with a touchback. Giants on offense.

13:29: The Giants opening drive of the third quarter goes nowhere as Daniel Jones was sacked for minus-six yards following a jailbreak.

12:57: Punter Riley Dixon appeared to be run into by a Cardinals defender, but no flag was thrown. Referee Adrian Hill said there was no foul because the Cards got a little piece of the punt. The ball was downed at the Cards' 36.

The rain has really picked up its intensity now.

11:23: I must confess that I'm very intrigued by GoldenTate as a punt returner. He just had a nice 17-yard return and looked very smooth doing it.

The rain has lightened up.

7:26: Daniel Jones just had the ball slapped out of his grasp on a 2nd-and-8 by Chandler Jones, who also gets credit for the sack.

Daniel Jones needs to stop dangling the ball out there until he's ready to wind up and throw.  Jones has seven interceptions and four lost fumbles this season.

7:33: Bad breakdown by the Giants. Antoine Bethea stops Kyler Murray on an 11-yard gain, but Lorenzo Carter drew a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.

6:11: And Chase Edmonds then capped the drive with a 22-yard touchdown run.

The Cards have scored 14 points following Giants turnovers today. Cardinals 24-Giants 14.

Saquon Barkley came off the field limping after a 2-yard run. He's on the sideline getting his right ankle retaped.

4:52: Jordan Hicks gets called for a personal foul after making contact with Daniel Jones' head when the quarterback scrambled for an eight-yard gain.

4:31: Another drop by Evan Engram--that's two for the day. And Saquon Barkley is back in the game.

3:34: Giants convert on 4th-and-6 as Danny Dimes connects with Golden Tate for a gain of 15 yards.

Evan Engram is on the sideline being evaluated.

1:11: Aldrick Rosas misses a 37-yard field goal attempt. That's his second miss this season. He had one all of last year.

Agree 100% with Carl Banks. Barkley has been struggling with cutting this game. The wet field certainly isn't helping matters either.

The Cards have 169 yards rushing after three quarters. Chase Edmonds is leading the pack.

That's a wrap on the third quarter. Cardinals 24 - Giants 14

Fourth Quarter

12:17: Barkley just had an 11-yard rush with a nice burst, but again, for most of the game, his cutting ability just doesn't look as it did prior to his injury.

Evan Engram is back in the game.

INJURY UPDATE: Giants say edge rusher Lorenzo Carter has an ankle injury but will return.

8:19: Barkley plows through the middle for a 7-yard touchdown to cap an 8-play, 82-yard scoring drive that spanned 4:44.

Rhett Elison and Evan Engram delivered solid blocks to open a gap for Barkley.

Giants are now down by three (they missed a field goal earlier in the game). Cardinals 24 - Giants 21

4:29: Giants just called a timeout with 4:29 remaining and the 2:00 warning. Not sure what the thinking was there, but let's see if Daniel Jones and the offense can move the ball and get into the end zone.

3:54: Chandler Jones just recorded his fourth sack of the day. Not sure who was supposed to pick him up.

2:35:  After Barkley gained just three yards on 3rd-and-18 (on a draw play no less), the Giants go for it on 4th-and-15. Jones is sacked by an unblocked cornerback Patrick Peterson, who forces a fumble, and Hassan Redding recovers it on the Giants' 17-yard line.

2:09: Gonzalez hits a 35-yard field goal attempt to give his team a six-point lead. If the Giants are going to win this one, they're going to need a touchdown. Oh and the Giants don't have any time outs after the 2:00 warning. Cardinals 27-Giants 21

2:05: Rookie Darius Slayton makes a big me=istake there taking out a kickoff return from 1 yard deep in his end zone. He only gets to his 12-yard line. Should have taken a knee there.

2:00: We've reached the two-minute warning.

Jones is sacked twice on that last drive as the Giants drop to 2-6. From this point out it's all about developing the kids.

Your final score: Cardinals 27 - Giants 21.
