Giants Bench Tommy DeVito for Tyrod Taylor in Second Half vs. Eagles

The DeVito era for the Giants appears to be over.

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito's Cinderella story was certainly fun while it lasted, but after two lack-luster starts in a row in which the Giants offense struggled, head coach Brian Daboll decided to pull the plug on the young rookie and reinsert Tyrod Taylor into the lineup.

DeVito, who has done a stellar job protecting the ball, struggled to get the offense going against the Philadelphia Eagles, who took a 20-3 halftime lead. New York was one of eight on their own and managed only 101 yards on 31 offensive plays, an average of 3.2 yards per play.

DeVito finished his half of football, going 9-of-16 for 66 yards, with his accuracy off on several misses. According to FOX Sports sideline reporter Pam Oliver, who spoke with Daboll after halftime, DeVito's benching was a coach's decision due to Daboll not being satisfied with the offense's performance.

DeVito replaced Taylor after he suffered a rib cage injury in a Week 8 loss to the Jets, an injury that landed him on injured reserve. The following week, DeVito relieved Daniel Jones in the game against the Raiders when Jones suffered a torn ACL.
