Giants Agree to Terms with DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches

The Giants are on the board with their first free-agent agreement with a player outside the building.

In their first external move of the free agency negotiating window, the New York Giants bolstered their defensive line by adding run-stuffing defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

Nunez-Roches, the only Belize-born player currently in the NFL, spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Chiefs and the Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl ring with the Bucs for Super Bowl LV.

Giants General Manager Joe Schoen had said that depth along the defensive line would be an area the Giants are looking to improve upon, and that was the first addition that the team made.

According to reports, Nunez-Roches agreed to a three-year deal that gives the Giants an option out after the second year.

Nunez-Roches posted a career year last season. He saw the most snaps of his career and brought his career sack total from two to four. In the run game, he also picked up a career-high 20 stops for a gain of three or less, topping his previous career-high of 13 in 2016.

Positionally, Nunez-Roches can line up all over the interior of the defensive line without missing a beat. Throughout his career, he’s primarily worked directly over the center but has shown the ability to line up anywhere inside the offensive tackles and be a threat.

Nunez-Roches will likely be asked to play a rotational role for the Giants after taking on a larger role with the Bucs in 2022. Justin Ellis was the primary depth nose tackle for the Giants in 2022 but had arguably the worst year of his career and is not expected to be back with the Giants.
