The New York Giants have re-signed running back Matt Breida as a backup to starter Saquon Barkley.

Breida's deal is for one year and a maximum of $2.3 million, including incentives per source.

Breida, 27, appeared in 17 regular-season games with one start for the Giants last year. He recorded 220 yards and one touchdown on 54 rushing attempts and had 118 yards on 20 receptions on offense.

Breida also contributed to special teams, occasionally playing gunner as needed, and had the second-best pass-blocking efficiency rating among the Giants running backs last year.

Before coming to the Giants, Breida had spent one year with the Bills, where he was current Giants head coach Brian Daboll, then the Bills offensive coordinator.
