Former Giants Defensive Assistant Follows Wink Martindale to Michigan

Kevin Wilkins reunites with new Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale's defensive staff.

Former New York Giants defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins and his brother Drew were dismissed from the team's coaching staff in January by head coach Brian Daboll. He is being hired by the University of Michigan as a defensive analyst, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reports.

Wilkins will be reunited with Wink Martindale, who resigned from his defensive coordinator role with the Giants due in part to Daboll's decision to fire the Wilkins brothers. Martindale, who aspires to become an NFL head coach, was hired last month to be the Wolverines' defensive coordinator after failing to find another NFL job.

Both Kevin and Drew Wilkins, the latter having been hired last month as the outside linebackers coach on new Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo's staff, first worked together on the Baltimore Ravens staff.

When Martindale, who had interviewed for the Giants' head coaching role in 2020 that ultimately went to Joe Judge, was hired by Daboll to become the team's new defensive coordinator, Martindale recommended both Wilkins brothers to be added to the Giants' staff.
