Giants to Interview Titans Running Backs Coach Tony Dews

Dews is the second assistant from former head coach Mike Vrabel's staff to draw interest from the Giants.

The New York Giants have requested permission to interview a second assistant coach from the Tennessee Titans staff, Tony Dews, the Titans tight ends coach who Giants head coach Brian Daboll is considering for the team's vacant running backs coach position.

Long-time Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky was the first to report the pending interview.

Dews joins defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, who reportedly met with the Giants last week about their vacant defensive coordinator position. Dews is also the second name linked to the Giants running backs coach role, joining Saints running backs coach Joel Thomas, who was linked to the Giants last week.

Dews, 50, has been with the Titans, his first NFL coaching job since 2018. He coached the team's running backs from 2018 through 2022 before being reassigned to the tight ends last year.

Before joining the Titans, Dews had a varied college coaching career, working mostly on the offensive side of the ball and working with every position group except quarterbacks.

He also had experience working with special teams, coming to UNLV in 2006, defensive line (Millersville, 1998; Holy Cross, 2003), and linebackers (UNLV, 2006).

Dews has worked with the offensive side of the ball from 2007 onward, starting with a stint at Michigan (2008-2010), where he coached the team's receivers and served as a punt team coordinator.

As the Titans running backs coach, Dews oversaw a group that included Derrick Henry, who logged more rushing attempts (1,464), yards (7,101), and touchdowns (68) than any other player between 2018-2022. The Titans running game ranked second in the NFL in rushing during that same period, averaging 139.9 ground yards per game.

Jeff Nixon, who had been the Giants running backs coach, left the team after one season to become the offensive coordinator at Syracuse.
