Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered a concussion in Sunday's Week 1 35-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and is in the league's protocol, the Giants announced.

It's unclear when Shepard was injured, but it was believed to have happened either late in the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter.

Shepard, who finished with six receptions out of seven targets for 42 yards (behind team leader Evan Engram) in Sunday's loss.

If he is unable to play, Cody Latimer, who has seen his reps increase with Golden Tate serving a four-game suspension, and Bennie Fowler will likely see even more reps when the Giants host the Bills during their regular-season opener Sunday.
