New York Jets Draft Profile: Notre Dame Offensive Tackle Blake Fisher

The New York Jets could consider Notre Dame offensive tackle Blake Fisher as a potential swing option in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The New York Jets are continuing their optimistic march toward the upcoming NFL Draft

With some new threads, and several exciting new additions to their roster, the Jets appear primed for a performance which could erase the memory of their 7-10 finish to last season. To do so, they must utilize next week’s draft to upgrade several key positions of need, including their offensive line.

In an attempt to provide quarterback Aaron Rodgers with additional protection, New York is expected to have interest in adding o-line depth, primarily at tackle, in the mid-to-late rounds. Accordingly, a talent which may interest the Jets is Notre Dame offensive tackle Blake Fisher.

Since 2021, Fisher has played a key role in both protecting and facilitating  one of the most productive offenses in Notre Dame’s storied history. Playing opposite top left tackle prospect Joe Alt, the 6-6, 312-pound right tackle played and started 12 games last season, while helping to comprise a unit which qualified as a semi finalist for the Joe Moore Award, given annually to the best offensive line in college football.

At his best, Fisher is capable of mirroring his opponent while holding up against the bull rush. Due to his size and complementary strength, he can create leverage when driving his blocks. Still, he will need to show more consistency on finishing his blocks to be an everyday starter at the pro level.Though his prowess is most evident on the right, New York may find that Fisher’s intangibles may permit a move to the left side.

Ranking in the lower third of the NFL in nearly every measurable metric — including No. 30 overall by Pro Football Network — it should come as no surprise that New York may be eager to invest prime draft capital to repair a severely fractured unit. New York's line struggled mightily last season, suiting up a total of fourteen different linemen and having utilized eleven offensive line combinations.

As such, they will need to add sustainable depth for the foreseeable future. Fisher, a prospect whose talent may exceed his current draft projection, could be of significant interest to New York in the coming days. Whether the Jets draft Fisher or a more developmental tackle, the team is almost certain to remain in the market for swing options to add depth behind Tyron Smith, and fellow starters Joe Tippmann, Morgan Moses, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and John Simpson.
