First Day in New York For Jets' New Receiver Mike Williams: Signing & Sandwich?

The New York Jets signed veteran receiver Mike Williams during an eventful day on social media. Embracing local flavor, the former Los Angeles Chargers' WR2 immediately endeared himself to a new fanbase.

From a New Jersey delicacy to New York City hoops, receiver Mike Williams got a real taste of life in his new home on Tuesday.

Visiting the New York Jets, and agreeing to a free-agent contract before leaving the building, Williams sent shockwaves through Gang Green social media circles and it all started with a sandwich.

With the former No. 7 overall draft pick scheduled to arrive in Florham Park, Twitter user @NYJ_Matt made sure a Garden State breakfast staple was waiting for Williams as a welcome gift. Using a food delivery app, the thoughtful fan ordered a Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwich from a local diner and sent it to 1 Jets Drive.

Due to the efforts of a delivery driver named Vano, the breakfast item made it into the hands of a security guard and, eventually, through the help of the Jets' social media team, landed in the building next to Williams.

While introducing their new WR2 in a social media post, the Jets offered the sandwich to the 29-year-old veteran who spent his first seven NFL season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Williams didn't hesitate, tearing into the brown paper bag and subsequently taking a bite out of the fan-funded food.

"It's good," said Williams while chewing in satisfaction.

The Jets have since changed their Twitter profile picture to a photo of the once-bitten "TEC" sandwich.

Later that evening, Williams appeared on the jumbotron at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Sitting courtside for the Nets' 104-91 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, the "X" receiver was featured by the NBA team's official social media accounts.

The signing of Williams, who has a career 15.6 yards per catch average, instantly boosts the profile of New York's receiving corps. Coming off a 2023 ACL tear, he has missed 18 of a possible 34 games over the past two years. When healthy, he's a dynamic weapon who can stretch the field and should quickly become a favorite of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

It's only been one day, but Williams already appears to be enjoying life as a New York Jet.
