New York Jets star safety Jamal Adams showing social consciousness in recent tweets

In recent weeks, New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has been tweeting regularly about social issues as well as the passing of Congressman John Lewis.

Any time Jamal Adams tweets, it is bound to get attention. But recently, the New York Jets star safety has been tweeting about recent events, including the passing of Congressman John Lewis.

And while Adams has made waves on social media for making posts that point towards him wanting out of the Jets via a trade, his posts over the past few weeks show have steered away from that conversations. Instead, he is showing that he is sincerely tapped into the growing social consciousness. In recent weeks, Adams has tweeted about the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement as well as Breonna Taylor and over the past few days about Lewis’ death.

It seems like the life of Lewis, however, has truly resonated with Adams, leading to a number of tweets and retweets over the past two days.

Before he was a powerful figure in Congress, Lewis was active in the ‘Freedom Rides’ of the 1960s as well as marching with Dr. Martin Luther King. In 1986, he was elected to Congress for the first time. He would be re-elected 16 times.

He was so powerful and well-liked by his constituents that that the Democrat from Georgia ran unopposed seven times.

Adams paid tribute to Lewis’ passing with several tweets over the weekend.

In the days after the death of George Floyd while in police custody, Adams tweeted regularly about social justice and issues affecting the Black community. He even participated in a march in Dallas to push for a change on policing issues.

Adams did create a small stir with a recent tweet about the upcoming NFL season. On July 10, he wrote about the possibility of NFL games being played before empty stadiums due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines.

The Jets All-Pro safety tweeted that fans should be allowed in and required to sign a waiver.
