WATCH: Bill Parcells gives rave review of Jets QB Sam Darnold

The Hall of Fame coach says Darnold's even-keeled approach will serve him well

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has the support of one of the greatest coaches in franchise history.

Former Jets coach and Hall of Fame member Bill Parcells spoke to the New York Post's Brian Costello and was effusive in his praise for the second-year signal caller heading into the regular season opener vs. the Buffalo Bills

“I know Sam a little bit,” Parcells said. “I like him. I think he’s a tough guy. You know what I like about him? He’s not ready to be a star. He just wants to play.”

Parcells met with Darnold and Bills quarterback Josh Allen in Florida before the 2018 NFL Draft. Parcells raves about the maturity and respect Darnold has commanded from the locker room early in his career.

Earlier in the summer, Darnold hosted his offensive teammates for a throwing session at his high school alma mater in Southern California. It's examples like these that demonstrate Darnold's tireless dedication and team-first mentality.

“That’s very important,” Parcells said. “Half of them come into the league and they’re ready to be a star but they’re not ready to pay the price to be a quarterback.”

Darnold is on the upward tick and the Parcells stamp of approval is further reassuring proof.
