28 Days Until NFL Draft: Packers Trade Up in Three-Round Mock

With exactly four weeks until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, here are some of the latest and greatest mock drafts.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers have a major need at offensive tackle in the 2024 NFL Draft. Even if they feel great about Rasheed Walker at left tackle, there is no depth whatsoever. If the season were to start today, Luke Tenuta and Caleb Jones, who played a combined zero snaps last year, would be the backups.

Fortunately, the season doesn’t start today. With the NFL Draft four weeks away, CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards put together a three-round mock. In it, the Packers traded their fourth-round choice to the Miami Dolphins to move up from No. 25 to No. 21.

Edwards’ target? Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims.

“Green Bay is not going to be able to sit still … and find their left tackle, so they get aggressive in moving up for the right to select Amarius Mims; the last left tackle prospect worthy of consideration at this stage of the draft,” Edwards explained.

The Packers could have stuck at No. 25 and selected Oklahoma right tackle Tyler Guyton, who also has the ability to play left tackle.

Edwards hammered the secondary in the second round with Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter and Washington State safety Jaden Hicks. Hicks, in particular, seems to be a strong option for the safety-starved defense.

Both of the third-round picks were used on defenders, as well.

USA Today: Arizona OT Jordan Morgan

With five offensive tackles off the board, Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz selected Arizona offensive lineman Jordan Morgan over Georgia’s Amarius Mims. At 6-foot-5 and 311 pounds and high-level experience, he’d be a “fine successor” to former All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari. However, his arms fell short of 33 inches, let alone the preferred 34.

Pro Football Network: Georgia OT Amarius Mims

At 6-foot-7 3/4 and 340 pounds, Mims showed his athleticism with a 5.07 in the 40-yard dash. His 36 1/8-inch arms give him another weapon to defeat blockers. So, the athleticism is there. But he has precious little experience – and what he has came at right tackle.

As Dallas Robinson said: “With starting options already in place, Green Bay can give Mims the time he needs to acclimate to the pros after starting just eight games at Georgia.”

Mims was the choice over Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton, Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan and Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Yahoo: Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton

Nate Tice and Charles McDonald tag-teamed this mock. They rightly point out that the Packers need to restock their offensive line after releasing David Bakhtiari and losing Jon Runyan and Yosh Nijman in free agency. Guyton has “high upside” and the ability to play either tackle spot. He was the fifth of seven offensive tackles off the board in the first round.

SB Nation (2 Rounds): Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton

Joseph Acosta went with some tried-and-true picks in his two-round mock. He led off with Guyton, a “supreme” athlete who is “still improving” as a run blocker. Guyton was the pick over Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin, whom fell to Green Bay’s spot at No. 41 of the second round.

33rd Team: Duke OL Graham Barton

Barton, a three-year starting left tackle for the Blue Devils, was the choice for Marcus Mosher. He gave up two sacks each of the last two years. However, as was the case with Arizona’s Jordan Morgan earlier in this story, his 32 7/8-inch arms fell well short of the left tackle threshold.

Nonetheless, the Packers lost right guard Jon Runyan in free agency this year and could lose center Josh Myers in free agency next year.

Atlanta Falcons: Clemson CB Nate Wiggins

Finally, somebody other than a lineman. Falcons.com writer Tori McElhaney selected the Georgia native over two other defensive backs: Iowa’s Cooper DeJean and Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry.
