*The club announced on Thursday that Tomlinson was not released. He was kept on the roster due to Josh Gordon's designation to IR, which then created a roster spot for Mohamed Sanu*

The trade is officially official - the New England Patriots have officially acquired Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick, according to the Patriots. To make room on the roster for Sanu, the team has released tight end Eric Tomlinson, who joined the team following New England's Week 6 win over the New York Giants.

With a banged-up tight end group last week, Tomlinson was signed to provide depth behind Ben Watson last Monday night against the New York Jets. Now that Ryan Izzo is expected to clear concussion protocol this week, New England is no longer in need of Tomlinson's services, which included playing TE and fullback in Week 7.

New England also announced the signing of offensive lineman Aaron Monteiro to their practice squad. The signing of Monteiro fills their practice squad to the max.
