New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick took a moment Monday morning to deliver a semi-humble message to his critics who are calling for his firing following Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Colts in Germany, an embarrassment that has the Pats falling to 2-8 on the season.

Belichick was asked about the scrutiny and the heat and the mood that has made "Fire Bill!'' become a viral and living thing on social media.

“Well,'' the six-time Super Bowl-winning boss said, "I just do the best I can every day.''

There is something dismissive about that remark, though it demonstrates at least a sliver of humility.

Did coach Belichick just morph from his usual "grumbling'' and "mumbling'' to something more akin to ... "humbling''?

Yes. Just for a second there before the iconic coach returned to form.

Mired in a 2-8 season and a downward spiral since the departure of Tom Brady, will Patriots owner Robert Kraft fire Bill Belichick?

Mired in a 2-8 season and a downward spiral since the departure of Tom Brady, will Patriots owner Robert Kraft fire Bill Belichick?

Over the course of the day, Patriots owner Robert Kraft made it clear he has been displeased with this season.

“This is our 30th year that I’ve had the privilege of owning this team, and I’ve never been 2-7,” Kraft said before kickoff on Sunday morning.

“So it’s really disappointing and I hoped that things would be a lot better, as I know our fan base did. And I hope today is a chance to reset and make this a much better year. This isn’t what we were expecting to happen this year.”

And that was before the Patriots debacle that dropped them to 2-8. So, Belichick was asked about that remark as well.

“I think we all feel that way,” Belichick said. “I think we’re all disappointed in the season. But we’ll keep going here. Seven games to go. Be ready to go next week against the Giants.”

Ah, there is the Bill Belichick we've all come to know and love. Er, well, right about now, just to know.
