Several Suitors: Which Teams Pursued Ex-Patriots Coach Matt Patricia?

Ex-New England Patriots coach Matt Patricia still had plenty of suitors following his dysfunctional season as the offensive play-caller.

Despite his unsuccessful stint as the New England Patriots offensive play-caller, Matt Patricia was still courted by several teams this offseason.

A report from Albert Breer sheds light on Patricia's job search. According to Breer, the long-time Bill Belichick coaching disciple had interest from teams other than the Philadelphia Eagles. The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams were also interested in bringing on the former Patriots defensive coordinator.

"Now, it did take a little while for this to come to life," Breer wrote. "Patricia had talked with the Broncos and Rams about positions, and he was linked to the Eagles going all the way back to the Super Bowl."

Ultimately, if the Rams were successful in their pursuit of Patricia, he wouldn't have been the first Patriots staffer to be poached by the Rams this off-season after they hired Nick Caley back in February

Before becoming the Detroit Lions' head coach in 2018, Patricia made a name for himself as the defensive coordinator of three Super Bowl-winning Patriot teams. After spending 13 years of his career learning under Belichick, Patricia will look to begin rebuilding his reputation with the Eagles as a senior defensive analyst.

While the Patriots move on from him with the return of veteran offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, as the control of the defense is still in the hands of inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo and outside linebackers coach Stephen Belichick.
