Patriots-Ex Devin McCourty Thanks Massachusetts via Billboard

Recently-retired New England Patriots defender Devin McCourty bid farewell to the area he called home for 13 seasons in extravagant fashion.

For 13 years, New Englanders routinely cheered the antics of ... a New Yorker.

That's the impact that former New England Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty had on autumn Sundays in Massachusetts. Having recently announced his retirement, McCourty has given the Bay State an extravagant thank you in the form of 37 billboards bearing a message of gratitude.

"Thank you NE!" the billboards read, showcasing a plethora of New England memories, such as playing with his brother and fellow defender Jason. "You helped a young kid become a man, father, husband, and a 3X Champ!"

McCourty shared an image of one of the billboards on his Twitter account, remarking that "F$&KIN LOVE(D)" New England, where he spent his entire career since entering the league as a first-round pick out of Rutgers in the 2010 draft.

In New England, McCourty was a part of three Super Bowl title runs and reached three All-Pro teams and two Pro Bowls. His 35 interceptions earned in a New England uniform are the second-most in team history and he has been a staple in the Patriots' "greatest" teams and compilations, appearing on the All-2010s and Dynasty groups. Playing 205 games with the Patriots, McCourty is just one of four defenders in NFL history to reach such a double-century mark with one team, joining Ronde Barber, Darrell Green, and Ken Riley.
