Nice ‘Guys’! Patriots' Family Wins Mother's Day

The clutch efforts of New England Patriots defender Lawrence Guy and his wife Andrea brought Mother's Day joy far beyond their own family.

The prescience of a New England Patriots defender is often cause for concern in Miami, but defensive tackle Lawrence Guy and his wife Andrea turned it into a source of joy over the weekend.

After Andrea gave birth in Miami on Sunday, welcoming the couple's fourth child, she and Lawrence gifted floral bouquets to the 75 other families in the natal intensive care unit at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. The deed was documented by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Guy's Mother's Day generosity is the latest example of his philanthropy since entering the league as a seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers' in 2011. Helping expectant mothers has been one of the cornerstones of eponymous family foundation, which joined him in New England upon his Foxboro arrival in 2017,

Such efforts allowed Guy to secure the Patriots' 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nomination, which recognizes the efforts of difference-making players beyond the gridiron.

"Since he arrived in New England five years ago, no player has dedicated more time or more personal resources to positively impact the lives of others in our New England communities,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a team statement heralding Guy's Payton nomination. “Lawrence and his wife Andrea have made it a personal priority to do more every year that they have been here and continue to exceed all expectations in terms of their generosity. He leads by example and is a great ambassador for the Patriots, both on and off the field.”

Guy is set to enter his seventh season in New England after previously working with Indianapolis, San Diego, and Baltimore. Last season saw him earn 46 tackes in 14 appearances, a tally that included three for a loss and two sacks.
