Patriots Draft Punter Bryce Baringer in Sixth Round

The New England Patriots continue their special teams focus on the final day of the 2023 NFL Draft.

After drafting kicker Chad Ryland in the fourth round, the New England Patriots followed it up with a punter in round six.

Bryce Baringer, a Michigan State product was selected by the Patriots with their No. 192 selection in the sixth round.

Their second special teams pick of the draft so far, Baringer was named the 2022 Big 10 punter of the year while breaking multiple records for the Spartans in the process.

According to SI Draft Bible, "Had a fantastic redshirt senior season. He played in thirteen games and averaged 48.4 yards per punt, which was a school record, and ranks second in Big Ten history. He decided to use his extra year of eligibility. As a graduate senior, he had an outstanding season, averaging 49.0 yards per punt, which ranked first in the Big Ten and FBS. Named to the 2022 NCAA Consensus All-America team."

In 2022, Baringer broke the Michigan State record for yards per punt (49.0) while also ranking first in Big Ten history in career punting average (46 yards).

As one of the most decorated players at his position in NCAA history, it comes as no surprise to see Baringer become just the 52nd punter to be drafted since 1997.

The Patriots are back on the clock with pick No. 245.
