New England Patriots fullback Jakob Johnson, who injured his shoulder during Thursday's 35-14 win over the New York Giants, is expected to be place on injured reserve, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe

Johnson was part of the NFL's International Program and was the Patriots' starting FB once James Develin (neck) landed on IR a couple weeks back. Johnson now joins Develin, N'Keal Harry, Isaiah Wynn, and Stephen Gostkowski as players who have been been placed on IR during the regular season.

New England can only take two of those players off injured reserve during the season. Because of the severity of Develin's injury, the expectation Wynn, Harry, or Gostkowski would be two of the players that would return when they are eligible to come off IR.

It's an unfortunate end to a wild journey for Johnson in 2019. After going undrafted and then signing with the Patriots during the offseason, Johnson managed to find himself on the practice squad to start the season, and then eventually was activated to the 53-man roster once Develin was unavailable.
