Raiders' Adam Butler: Maxx Crosby is 'Legendary'

Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Adam Butler had high praise for star defensive end Maxx Crosby.

The Las Vegas Raiders enjoyed excellent play out of their defensive line in 2023. 

From stars like defensive end Maxx Crosby to depth pieces like defensive tackles Adam Butler and John Jenkins and even breakout young players like Malcolm Koonce, the Raiders were stopping the run and getting to the quarterback from all over the defensive line. 

Butler joined the Raiders in 2023 and had one of the best seasons of his career. He posted 28 total tackles, eight for loss -- which tied a career-high -- nine quarterback hits, a forced fumble, and five sacks. 

Butler will be entering his seventh season in the league, earning veteran status. He has had the luxury of playing alongside some great talent so far in his career, including Crosby, of course, one of the top edge rushers in the league. Butler discussed what it’s like playing with someone of Crosby’s caliber when he joined Crosby on the latest episode of his podcast, "The Rush with Maxx Crosby."

“It really means the world to me,” Butler said. “It’s an honor to play with somebody that legendary. How are you 26, and you’re already a Hall of Famer before you get to the Hall of Fame? This man has numbers I’ve never seen before. I tell him all the time when I see him going through the drills and stuff, I’m like, ‘How the f--- do you do that? How does your knee stay intact when you bend around the corner?’”

Crosby is already climbing the ranks of all-time Raiders records. He ranks 12th in franchise history in tackles, fifth in sacks, and holds the franchise record for tackles for loss. 

As a veteran, Butler will now work with Crosby to bring along young Raiders defenders like Koonce and Tyree Wilson. If those players can take steps in the right direction and improve their games, the Raiders could have a better defensive line in 2024 than they had last season.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
