Raiders' AP Enjoying First Draft Process as Head Coach

Las Vegas Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce has already been a busy man in his first offseason as a head coach.

Las Vegas Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce was thrown into the fire last season when he was named interim head coach.

With that first campaign now behind him, Pierce can start fresh and focus on the benefits of the offseason, particularly the different stages of the NFL Draft process.

Pierce has been on the go this month, evaluating talent at the NFL Combine, visiting numerous universities for Pro Days, and attending his first NFL Owners' Meetings as a head coach.

"I love it; I'm out of the office," Pierce said at the NFL Owners' Meetings on Monday. "There's nothing wrong with being out of the office.

"No, but it's good. I'm a guy that likes to touch the players, be around the players. So, a lot of good prospects in this year's draft, a lot of colleges that I would like to get to and make sure I have a good relationship with and our organization so we get good information and, more importantly, you're out there representing the organization and brand.

"And I want to make sure people always see that Raiders shield everywhere we go."

Pierce is familiar with the college ranks, having served in multiple roles throughout his four years coaching at Arizona State. He also knows all about evaluating talent. Pierce was the Sun Devils' recruiting coordinator as well during those four years and even gave recruiting pitches to some of the top talent in this year's draft class.

While the first offseason can be stressful for a new head coach, Pierce is embracing the process, which is just another reason for Raiders fans to admire their coach.

You can watch Pierce's entire press conference from Monday here.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
