Three Raiders Who Could Get Contract Extensions

These three Las Vegas Raiders could see big money if they have good seasons.

The Las Vegas Raiders have some young defensive players they may be looking to lock up long-term.

We have talked a lot about the Raiders’ young core on defense this week, as this group will likely be the players who help lead the Raiders to victories in 2024.

Some of these players are on expiring contracts, so the Raiders may need to move quickly to ensure they don’t head elsewhere when they are free agents. General Manager Tom Telesco knows how important talented, young defensive players can be for a franchise, so he must keep these players around.

Let’s take a closer look at three Raiders’ defenders who could earn contract extensions if they play well in 2024.

Linebacker Divine Deablo - Deablo was finally healthy in 2023, missing just two games and posting career highs in several statistical categories. He finished the season with 106 total tackles, four for loss, two quarterback hits, and a sack.

Deablo was a third-round selection out of Virginia Tech in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played defensive back for the Hokies but switched to linebacker when he got to the NFL. Deablo is the perfect linebacker in a pass-heavy modern NFL to handle receivers and tight ends over the middle of the field. He has shown flashes of being a good sideline-to-sideline player, too.

Deablo has one year left on his contract before he hits free agency. If he can stay healthy and repeat last season’s production in 2024, he could earn himself some big money.

Safety Tre’von Moehrig - Hailing from the same draft class, Moehrig bounced back in 2023 after a rough sophomore season.

Moehrig finished 2023 with 83 total tackles, a tackle for loss, eight passes defended, and three interceptions. He finally started to show why the Raiders selected him so early in that draft class out of TCU.

Moehrig has one year left on his contract, just like Deablo. If he puts together another strong season, he could earn an extension and cement himself as a core member of the defense.

Defensive end Malcolm Koonce - Koonce was the most significant breakout player on the team in 2023.

He established himself as a key member of the Raiders’ pass rush with a career-high eight sacks. He started to finish sacks he had not finished in previous seasons. He also comes from the 2021 draft class, along with Deablo and Moehrig.

Koonce will undoubtedly earn a significant extension if he puts together another impressive season off the edge in 2024.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
