Antonio Pierce Wants to Keep Davante Adams Happy

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is one of the best receivers in the game, and it's important for the club to continue to allow him to be so.

Star wide receiver Davante Adams has only been a Las Vegas Raider for two seasons, but his name has been one of the most recurring in outside trade speculation for nearly the entire time he has donned the Silver and Black.

Sure, it's reasonable to wonder if there have been points where Adams has wanted out. He came from a winning franchise in Green Bay expecting to reunite with his college quarterback, Derek Carr, whom he only played with for 15 games before the longtime Raiders quarterback was benched and eventually released. Since then, Adams has had three different starting quarterbacks (four if you include the one game former Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer started last season) and two head coaches.

But Adams grew up a Raiders fan, and Las Vegas is still where he wants to be.

"Having a guy like Davante -- wanted to be a Raider; I don't think that's ever changed," said Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce when he spoke at the NFL Owners' Meetings on Monday. "I think when you saw him shake his dreads after the first game, you knew what time it was; that was going to continue. We plan on that continuing; we're talking about one of the best receivers in the game.

"To have him in our building for our corners, for a Jack Jones, for a Nate [Hobbs] to go against that every day, [it] makes us a better defense on Sunday versus our opponent. And then, to have the leadership of Davante, his presence -- you guys know this -- when he talks, there's substance there. So, keeping Davante at peace makes everybody's lives a lot easier, especially mine.

Pierce's method of keeping Adams happy is rather simple: "Throw him the ball."

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
