Las Vegas Raiders Need Help at More Than One Position

The Las Vegas Raiders have solidified multiple positions on their roster so far this offseason. However, they still have other position groups that need help.

Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has done an admirable job of quickly adding to the Raiders roster. From prior experience with players like Jerry Tillery and D.J. Fluker or letting players like Jermaine Eluemunor and Josh Jacobs walk in free agency, Telescho has shown an intimate knowledge of the team’s roster.

Telesco and the Raiders will likely wait until after the NFL Draft to add more players in free agency. The Raiders have more than a few pressing needs on their roster that must be addressed if they hope to have a successful season, most notably their offensive line. However, there are other positions of need as well.

Games are won and lost in the trenches. The Raiders certainly need help on their offensive line. Massive holes along the unit need to be addressed with both starting-caliber players and reserve linemen, as both are issues for the current Raiders' roster. Las Vegas will surely add to its offensive line before training camp concludes this offseason.

With that assumption in mind, Telesco and the Raiders should focus on getting as much talented depth at other positions while they find veteran offensive line help as possible this offseason. They still can bring Greg Van Roten back in free agency before he signs with another team. Considering he started all 17 games for the Silver and Black last season and was more than serviceable, this could be an option for the Raiders.

Either way, the Raiders could focus on other positions, such as cornerback and linebacker, in the draft and free agency. At cornerback, the Raiders have Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs. Behind Jones and Hobbs on the depth chart are Jakorian Bennett and Brandon Facyson. While both Jones and Hobbs are quality starters, and Bennett and Facyson are capable backups, the Raiders could undoubtedly use more depth at the position with the departure of Amik Robertson. The Raiders would take a significant risk to enter next season without adding to the unit.

They’d also be taking a considerable risk if they were to enter next season without a quality addition to their linebacker unit. While Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo are a formidable duo, the Raiders missed Deablo’s presence on the field last season when he missed a few games due to injury. The Raiders should take advantage of the opportunity to add to their linebacker group while they have the chance to do so.

Most of the excitement surrounding the Raiders’ possibilities this offseason has centered around their many possibilities at adding to the quarterback position. However, it would be wise to consider using their first-round draft pick to accumulate more picks or use their first picks in the first two rounds to address their cornerback and linebacker position, in addition to trying to find a couple of competent offensive linemen in the draft and free agency.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
