Raiders Are Positioning Themselves to Win on NFL Draft Day.

Because of the moves Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has made, it is nearly impossible to honestly know the team's plans for the NFL Draft.

Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has made multiple moves this offseason to help improve the team’s roster heading into next season. Las Vegas already has a solid group of wide receivers. They’ve already added to the tight-end position by signing veteran Harrison Bryant, filling the void left by Austin Hooper while also subtly committing to getting Michael Mayer more involved in their offense.

The Raiders have solidified their running backs by resigning Ameer Abdullah and signing Alexander Mattison to add to a budding running back in Zamir White. Offensively, the only position the Raiders must add to is their offensive line. They also have two competent quarterbacks who will compete for the starting position this offseason and have let it be known they are still in the market for another addition at quarterback.

On offense, the only positions the team should consider adding are the offensive line and quarterback. Defensively, the Raiders solidified their offensive line by signing free agent defensive lineman Christian Wilkins to a line that already contains one of the best duos in the league, Malcolm Koonce and Maxx Crosby. The signing of Wilkins gives the Raiders one of the best defensive lines in the league.

Behind their defensive line, the Raiders have a formidable linebacker duo with Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo. Las Vegas already has Luke Masterson and Amari Burney on the unit, but it could use another serviceable linebacker to add to its group.

The Raiders had one of the youngest defensive backfields in the National Football League last season and could get younger at the position should they decide to draft a cornerback in the first round. Jack Jones, Nate Hobbs, Marcus Epps, and Tre’von Moehrig showed the ability to play well together last season.

However, in the NFL, nothing stays the same. Teams are either getting worse or getting better. It would make a lot of sense for the Raiders to consider adding to their group of cornerbacks. They’ll have to decide whether youth and value are more important than experience at the position.

Telesco has made moves that improve the team’s roster but don’t reveal their draft day plans. This approach, combined with the team's multiple legitimate needs, makes it hard to guess which way the Raiders are leaning with their draft day plans. This puts the Raiders in a position to win on draft day regardless of who they choose, as they’ll likely be in the running to select a top talent at one of many positions of need.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
