Raiders Select Amari Burney at No. 203 Overall
On Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders selected Florida linebacker Amari Burney with the No. 203 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.
They attained that pick, along with the No. 104 overall pick, when they traded the No. 109 and No. 174 pick to the Houston Texans.
Burney was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll four times (2018, 2020-2022).
The 6-foot-2, 228-pound linebacker totaled 223 tackles, 15 for losses, 16 passes defensed, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in his five seasons playing for the Gators. Burney moved from defensive back to linebacker following his freshman season.
Last season, Burney posted a career-best 79 tackles, nine for losses, four sacks, two interceptions, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in 13 games.
The season before, the prospect registered 44 tackles, one for a loss and three passes defensed.
Burney made four starts in 12 appearances in 2020 and three starts in eight games the season before. He appeared in all 12 games his freshman season (2018).
Before going to Florida, Burney played wide receiver and safety at Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Fla.
Burney is the cousin of Raiders cornerback Brandon Facyson, whom the club signed this offseason after he had previously been a member of the team two seasons before. Facyson spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.
