The Las Vegas Raiders have done a good job improving the roster during the offseason.

However, there is still work to do. The Raiders want to be a postseason team in 2024 under Coach Antonio Pierce, and they still have to add to some positions on both sides of the ball.

While Pierce inspired excellent play out of his defense, the Raiders can still add to that side of the ball.

The Raiders beefed up their defensive line with star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and have their starting linebackers set with Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo.

In addition, the Raiders have their starting safeties under control but could still add to the cornerback group. That position was improved under Pierce and Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham, but more work can still be done.

The Raiders finished 12th in passing defense in 2023, an improvement from their 29th-place finish in 2022, but there is still room to grow in the secondary.

Las Vegas’ cornerback group currently features Jack Jones, Brandon Facyson, Jakorian Bennett, Nate Hobbs, Sam Webb and Cornell Armstrong. They had only two free agents: Tyler Hall, who remains unsigned, and Amik Robertson, who signed with the Detroit Lions.

Bennett would be primed to slide into a starting role if the Raiders do not bring in another cornerback. Jones did a tremendous job when he was picked up midseason, and Hobbs has been a fixture in the Raiders’ defense in the slot.

It’s likely the Raiders will add a cornerback at some point, whether they bring in another free agent or select one in the 2024 NFL Draft. In fact, they have already explored the free agent market.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Buffalo Bills star Tre’Davious White visited with the Raiders on Monday. White, 29, is coming off of a torn Achilles he sustained in Week 4 last season, and is a former First-Team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler.

White would be a tremendous addition to the Raiders’ cornerback room. He would bring experience and winning football. He is coming off a major injury, which might make the Raiders hesitant to sign him long-term.

The Raiders have been popularly linked to a cornerback with the No. 13 overall selection in the draft, whether that’s Terrion Arnold or Kool-Aid McKinstry of Alabama, Quinyon Mitchell of Toledo or Nate Wiggins of Clemson.

The Raiders need to add to their cornerback room if they want to become an elite defense in 2024. Adding a game-changing defensive back who can shut down a side of the field would add a whole new dynamic to their defense.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
