Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: HB Jonathon Brooks, Texas

The Las Vegas Raiders might have their RB1 with Zamir White, but it never hurts to have a two-headed threat in the backfield.

The Las Vegas Raiders' offense took a hit when former NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs left for the Green Bay Packers. Raiders running back Zamir White showed he can be a successful starter in this league, but giving him another young back to share the load could make for a strong one-two punch.

New Raiders running back Alexander Mattison could be that player, but a late-season injury last year might make Las Vegas want to look at a fresher pair of legs.

Jonathon Brooks of Texas is arguably the best halfback in next month's NFL Draft class. He would be a great sidekick for White and could even challenge him for the starting spot.

Brooks earned a production and total score of 80 from NFL Next Gen Stats for his NFL Combine performance, ranking him second among all running backs in each category. He also received an athleticism score of 77, the 11th-best among running backs.

The prospect is coming off a stellar final season with the Longhorns. He led the team with 1,139 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns while also recording 286 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in 11 games (eight starts). Brooks unfortunately missed the final four games of Texas’ season after tearing his ACL against TCU.

The Longhorns went on to win the Big 12 title and stamp a trip to the College Football Playoff. Brooks was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award.

Pro Football Focus gave Brooks an overall grade of 91.5 for his 2023 campaign.

Brooks played in just seven games the season prior and only four in his freshman season, 2021-22. 

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
