Josh McDaniels' success as an offensive coordinator in New England can make it easy to forget that he had a quick head coaching stint prior to taking the reins for the Las Vegas Raiders.

McDaniels spent nearly two seasons as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2009 and 2010 before being let go after Week 13 of the 2010 season, when he led his team to a 3-9 record.

On Sunday, McDaniels returns to Empower Field at Mile High for the first time as head coach with a different franchise.

This, of course, will not be his first time back in Denver, but the stakes should feel a little different this time around.

“I mean, I've been back there many times," McDaniels said in his Wednesday press conference. "Obviously not as a head coach, but I've been back there many times as an assistant. I usually am just focused on the game. So, I'm just excited for the opportunity, obviously. Like I said, I know that everybody associates bad memories with places that they've left, if it wasn't necessarily on your terms. But I didn't really look at it that way. They gave me a great opportunity, I was very thankful for that when I got it and still am. I've used it many, many times over to try to improve myself, hopefully, as a coach and as a person. So, there are a lot of people still there who I have a great deal of respect for and admiration, and we'll just try to do the best we can here to compete. But this will not be about me, this will be about our football team trying to win on the road and winning in the division on the road."
