Before football officially kicked off in Allegiant Stadium in this 2023 NFL season, it was only right for the Las Vegas Raiders to honor one of the greatest to ever wear the Silver and Black.

Raiders legendary quarterback Ken Stabler was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016, a bit over a year after his passing in 2015.

Stabler was not granted a Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence, as prior to 2022, Hall-of-Fame inductees could not receiver a ring if they were not alive at the time of their induction.

Last year, though, the Hall of Fame changed its rule and now allows the families of inductees who joined the Hall posthumously to receive their rings.

On Sunday night, Stabler was honored as his family accepted his Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence on his behalf.

Stabler played the first 10 of his 15 NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He led the Silver and Black to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history in the 1976-77 season.

Stabler and the Raiders defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in that AFC title game, the same team they played Sunday night and a team he encountered many times during the height of the two teams' historic rivalry.

Two years before, Stabler won the NFL's MVP award and Offensive Player of the Year award, having finished the season as a Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team honoree. He ultimately would be named to four Pro Bowls in his career.

Stabler is second in Raiders history in with 19,078 passing yards and 150 touchdowns.

The Hall-of-Fame quarterback was drafted by Oakland in the second round of the 1968 NFL Draft.

Following his years with the Raiders, Stabler would play two seasons with the Houston Oilers and three with the New Orleans Saints.

Stabler finished his NFL career with 27,938 passing yards and 194 passing touchdowns, all on 2,270 completions.

The Silver and Black return to the road next week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
