Raiders GM Telesco on Learning his Coaching Staff

Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has enjoyed the process of getting to know his coaching staff.

Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco is still just in his first offseason with the Silver and Black, but he’s had to make some big decisions and will have to continue to do so before the 2024 season begins.

Fortunately for Telesco, he has the help of his coaching staff, particularly the three great minds of Coach Antonio Pierce, Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham, and Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy.

Telesco talked about the process of getting to know his staff throughout the different stages of the offseason when he joined the “2024 Raiders Free Agency Show.”

“It’s been really cool,” he said. “Going through the meetings for our free agency, we would meet with the coaches and then coming up at the draft in a couple weeks, I start to get a feel for what they like in players, what fits in their scheme. 

“It’s one thing for a coach to tell me what he’s looking for. To me, I learn more from when we talk about a specific player and how he may fit, and I also learn from actually seeing it on the field. I’m more of a visual person; I need to see it on the grass sometimes rather than just telling me.

“But what I learn a lot from is in the meetings, from Luke [Getsy], from Patrick [Graham] as far as what they’re looking for, what style will play in their defense, and obviously, from AP [Pierce] as well. So, the free agency was fun; we don’t talk about as many players in free agency because the pool is smaller. 

“[With the] draft, the pool is a lot bigger. And we’ll go through every position, but it’s a pretty fun process.”

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
