Raiders GM Tom Telesco Talks Team’s Young CB Room

The Las Vegas Raiders' cornerback room has some promising potential after a leap in production last season.

The Las Vegas Raiders saw a lot of growth in their cornerback room last season, which was necessary for the team’s late-season success on the defensive side of the ball.

The cornerback room lost some significant experience when the club released veteran cornerback Marcus Peters more than halfway through the season, but the young group did not shy away from the challenge.

A perfect example of the group’s willingness to rise to the occasion was former fourth-round draft pick Jack Jones, whom the Raiders claimed off waivers in November.

Jones and the rest of the cornerback room have high expectations riding on them as the Raiders enter this new era under General Manager Tom Telesco and Coach Antonio Pierce.

Telesco talked about the cornerback room and how it will be approached this offseason when he joined the “2024 Raiders Free Agency Show.”

“It’s a relatively young room,” he said. “I mean, [Nate] Hobbs is a proven player and a really good player. And Brandon Facyson -- I know he was hurt most of last year … but he’s had some good points of his career.

"But the rest of the guys are really young, including Jack [Jones]. But man, he really flashed last year, certainly flashed here as a player.

"You can’t have enough good corners; you have to be able to cover people in this league. The rush helps, but you still got to cover. So, it’s still a work in progress in that room, but we’ve got some pieces there.

"I think we’ll probably have to add some more there, just for good competition. And biggest thing is depth at that position because it just seems like once the season starts, you get into September, if you have some injuries at corner, they’re just not easy to find, they’re just not. So, you need a lot of them.”

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
