Raiders' Telesco on Outside Noise Ahead of NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders have several directions they can go with their first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

April is just around the corner, and the buzz around the 2024 NFL Draft is as loud as it has been this offseason.

Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco and his staff have a critical task ahead of them regarding the route they go with the Raiders' first-round pick. Fans and analysts have their own opinions on how that 13th overall pick should be used, and with this being Telesco's first statement in the draft as the Raiders' GM, it would be fair if the longtime NFL executive felt some pressure riding on his decision.

But Telesco views the chatter as rather enjoyable, even calling it "fun" when he joined the "2024 Raiders Free Agency Show."

"The chatter is for entertainment purposes," Telesco said. "But it's fun. I think it's fun for people to talk about because there's so many different scenarios that could happen.

"It's not like the baseball draft, where there's no trades and you're kind of stuck in your picking. And then also, [in] baseball, you're picking players that the fans don't even know who they are and you won't see them for three or four or five years. We're picking players that, hopefully, your first pick is contributing from Day 1.

"So, yeah, we just kind of do our process. What we try and do is prepare for every scenario -- trade up, trade back, and if you can't do either of those, if you stick and pick what you're going to do. It's a huge preparation, and that's really what it is.

"We go through every possible scenario and talk it out beforehand so when we're on the clock, something happens, we don't turn to each other and it's like, 'Hey, what do you want to do now?'

"We don't want to have that to happen, so we try and go through every possible scenario."

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
