Answering Your Las Vegas Raiders Questions:  Week One

We take time to answer your Las Vegas Raiders questions after a week one win over the Carolina Panthers.

Henderson, Nev. -- Each week at Sports Illustrated's Raider Maven, we answer your questions and emails. So thank you for making this article about you, and here we go:

Hondo, Damon Arnette was beaten on the double move in the Carolina Panther game. My heart sunk. Is he a first-round bust? Kyle M. Burbank, CA

He is a rookie. Is this email a joke? In his first game, he already moved into the starting lineup. You must not have been a Raider fan long. They have had some great corners, none of them were perfect, let alone as rookies. Step away from whatever you are indulging in, and enjoy a win.

Hondo, you said during the entire offseason how good Johnathan Abram would be. Not sure how you saw it so strong, but great call. He is a stud. Kevin E. Meridian, MS

He is a great player. His technique is so sound, but his leadership was outstanding, and the way he not only played but made others better was impressive.

Hondo, what stood out to you the most against Carolina? Tracy Thomson

The way the defense struggled and gave up a lead, but never quit. The offense kept moving, and the defense responded. Young teams, and indeed the Raiders in the past, would have gotten down. Not these guys.

Hondo, once again, Derek Carr, was a game manager, but not spectacular. Now, do you see our point? Bryan V.

If you won the lottery, Bryan, you would complain about paying the taxes. Derek was spectacular. With two offensive starters on the line out injured, Carr got rid of the ball quickly to nullify the pass rush and never threw an interception. I think Carr was great.

Hondo, is it time to panic about Trent Brown?  Helen Carrigan

No worries about his character, but the best ability is availability.  Panic?  No, but I can tell you the concern is warranted.

Hondo, I remember listening to you on Raider Nation Raider radio this summer, and you talked about Nelson Agholor making an impact. What a great call. Keep up the excellent coverage of our Raiders on Sports Illustrated. Jack Wright

I love Agholor's approach to the game. The way he just came to camp every day. He made me look good, but if anyone had gotten to see him in camp, they would have seen it.

Hondo, you are one of the most positive media guys I know. I appreciate that, but was there any player that disappointed you in the win?  Allen Cecil

Carl Nassib was disappointing to me.

Hondo, do you think our offense can outscore the Saints for the win? Ron Rodriguez

I appreciate your question but don't believe that is the right question.

Can the defense get turnovers? This game isn't about the defense shutting New Orleans out, but they need some turnovers and some stops. This game is on the defense.

Hondo, you are new to Raider Nation. What have you learned? Darrell Little

I am stunned at how many people, even after a win, aren't happy.

This fan base seems always to be looking for the negative. That is disappointing, but it also speaks to a super fan base that expects a lot.
