The Los Angeles Rams welcome the San Francisco 49ers to town on Sunday, with hopes of breaking a streak that's gotten out of hand. The Rams enter Week 2 after a win over the Seahawks, while the 49ers also won their season opener over the Steelers.

Los Angeles has lost eight regular season games to their neighbors from up north, and that's not lost on the Rams. It only slightly helps that the Rams beat the 49ers in the NFC championship game last year, as there are still eight losses dating back four years in the regular season. And Rams coach Sean McVay knows it.

“I think the biggest thing is they’ve been a great team,” McVay said. “It’s been challenging, and we’re going to do our best to come away with the result we’re hunting up. ... The previous games — every single week is a new entity. Every single year is a new year. One thing that hasn’t changed is they’re a great team again, and we’ve got a great challenge.”

While the 49ers are expected to contend for an NFC crown again this year, the Rams are not. However, they are off to a strong start after their road victory against the Seahawks.

“We have such a history, with the coaching staffs being similar for so long and the players being similar for so long,” San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said. "Once you turn on the tape, yeah, you don’t know some of the guys. But you definitely know 99, and you know the quarterback, and then you watch the schemes and nothing’s really different.”
