The Los Angeles Rams finally secured the 14 contracts of the 2023 draft class by signing Kobie Turner and Byron Young last week.

However, another significant move got lost in the commotion, when the Rams signed former Canadian Football League tight end Nikola Kalinic, the team announced on Friday.

A member of the Indianapolis Colts practice squad for much of last season, Kalinic was promoted midseason and the 26-year-old played in seven games with two starts, recording 47 snaps, 42 of which came on special teams.

After he was waived by the Colts, Kalinic also worked out for the Packers, Browns and Falcons before signing with Los Angeles.

Having begun his career in the CFL, Kalinic was never a star north of the border. His time in Canada included just 23 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns in 30 games.

Given the current structure of the Rams' tight end room, with Tyler Higbee, Davis Allen, Brycen Hopkins, Hunter Long and Christian Sims already ahead of him, it would seem unlikely that he will make the final 53-man roster

However, the Los Angeles roster is in a state of flux entering training camp, and Kalinic could very well find himself on the practice squad by the fall, with a chance to be called up to the active roster at some point in the season.
