The Los Angeles Rams got their first glimpse of several rookies during their 34-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in their preseason opener at SoFi Stadium on Saturday night.

Among these rookies was cornerback Tre'vius Hodges-Tomlinson, who delivered a solid outing. When his coach, Sean McVay, was asked about Hodges-Tomlinson's performance after the team's loss, he praised the cornerback's competitiveness.

“Exactly what you said. Some of the stuff that made him a Thorpe Award winner, the competitiveness,” McVay said. “He’s a tough competitor that doesn’t have any fear and he’s not afraid to get up and challenge guys. Thought he did a good job in a couple of those situations too of being able to get his eyes back, play the ball true, and had a nice breakup against his former teammate down that sideline on the Chargers side.

McVay also added that he liked the confidence he saw from Hodges-Tomlinson on the field.

"He’s just got a nice swagger about himself. I was happy for Tre making a couple of those plays tonight," McVay said.

Hodges-Tomlinson wasted no time making an impact in Saturday's game. On the Chargers' opening drive, he swiftly disrupted a pass intended for his former college teammate, receiver Quentin Johnston. This deflection led to a Chargers punt, and by the end of the game, he tallied two tackles to his name.

As the Rams prepare to host the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 19, followed by a matchup at Empower Field against the Denver Broncos on Aug. 26, the remaining preseason games will be of significant importance for Hodges-Tomlinson. These matchups offer him a valuable opportunity to earn a solid role with the Rams this season.
