Rumor: Rams Rejected D'Andre Swift Trade With Lions?

A new rumor suggests that the Los Angeles Rams declined a trade offer from the Detroit Lions regarding running back D'Andre Swift, who was instead traded to the Philadelphia Eagles

The Los Angeles Rams have made several moves to acquire proven players in recent years, and it culminated in a Super Bowl LVI win. However, they seem to be avoiding acquiring more players as they enter a rebuilding period, and the Detroit Lions may have found that out firsthand.

According to reports, the Lions approached the Rams during the draft about a trade involving running back D'Andre Swift. However, the Rams reportedly rejected the Lions' offer, and Detroit instead dealt Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

There's little doubt that Swift could have done well in L.A.'s offense. In three seasons, the former Georgia running back has 1,680 yards and 18 touchdowns rushing, plus 1,198 yards and seven touchdowns receiving. Although Swift hit some bumps early on in his career, he has still been plenty productive when healthy. However, after the Lions selected running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 12 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for Swift in Detroit.

With the Rams entering a rebuild, though, it would've made little sense to acquire Swift. He only has one year remaining on his contract, so he wouldn't have made sense as a rental for a rebuilding team, and it's unclear if the Rams would give him what he would've wanted on an extension. At least for now, the Rams seem content with their running back room of Cam Akers, Kyren Williams and rookie Zach Evans.

While Swift definitely needed a change of scenery, going to the Rams likely wouldn't have been ideal for him or the team.
