Rams LB Ernest Jones Named 'Secret Star'

The Los Angeles Rams haven't made many draft picks over the years due their aggressive pursuit of a Super Bowl, but they hit on linebacker Ernest Jones.

The Los Angeles Rams were disappointing in 2022, finishing 5-12 after winning a Super Bowl. But things were not all bad; L.A. did have some bright lights, especially on defense.

Even after signing veteran inside linebacker Bobby Wagner, the Rams still had a breakout from Wagner's partner Ernest Jones. The second-year backer finished second on the team in tackles, only behind Wagner, and earned the title of a "secret star" for the Rams from Pro Football Focus (PFF).

"Jones was fantastic against the run, finishing with the second-most stops on the team (39). While he and Wagner both allowed over 400 yards in coverage, both players only allowed one receiving touchdown on the year. Jones is a fantastic complement to Wagner, as the Rams have to feel great about the linebacker corps going into the 2023 season."

Jones, the former third-round pick out of South Carolina, looks to be the future at the inside linebacker position on a defense that includes some big-name stars like Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, and Wagner, as mentioned above.

Hitting on draft picks like Jones will be crucial to a potential Rams rebuild after opting to trade away the picks for so long.
