Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford's Thumb Injury 'Feels Better'; Play vs. Seattle Seahawks?

The Los Angeles Rams received another encouraging injury update on quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to trend favorably for a return to action in next Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks after missing last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers with a sprained UCL in his thumb.

Stafford, with the Rams currently enjoying their lone bye week of the season, appeared on the Pat McAfee Show Friday and delivered positive news on his injury status.

"Thumb's feeling better than I thought it would," Stafford said. "I was a little bit scared in the Dallas game it was going to be worse than it was and just happy it's not. I'm going to do whatever I need to be out there."

In Stafford's place, the Rams turned to Brett Rypien at quarterback, and didn't necessarily see the results they'd hoped for. Rypien completed 13 of 28 passes for 130 yards and an interception while adding three runs for 19 yards.

The Rams scored only 14 points in six quarters without Stafford signa under center. Rypien was waived Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Stafford has completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford is trending in the right direction to play against Seattle, and the team's recent addition of veteran Carson Wentz was made primarily with the backup role in mind.

During the bye week, Stafford shared he stayed on the west coast and relaxed with a focus on healing - and the returns have been positive.

"Body is feeling decent," Stafford said. "Trying to get the thumb back up to speed and ready to go for Seattle when we get back."

Upon returning from their bye week, the Rams will prepare for a 4:25 p.m. kickoff against the Seahawks inside Sofi Stadium on Nov. 19.
