Al Michaels Praises 'Fantastic & Astonishing!' Rams' Coach Sean McVay

Esteemed Thursday Night Football announcer Al Michaels compares Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay's success to Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

All signs are pointing to a second-consecutive losing season for the Los Angeles Rams due to their inexperienced roster. The Super Bowl champions of 2021 are no more as few members of that team are still in Los Angeles today.

Rams coach Sean McVay will face one of, if not the toughest challenges of his career this season, but his resumé makes anything he does possible.

Esteemed Thursday Night Football announcer Al Michaels has been in awe of McVay's expertise since he arrived in Los Angeles in 2017.

"Sean McVay is fantastic," Michaels said on The Rich Eisen Show. "This is one of the most amazing stories in all of my years covering the NFL. He is 37 years old and the youngest coach in the league, but he's in his seventh year. He sent four guys to head coaching jobs, he's been to two Super Bowls and he has a Lombardi Trophy. That's astonishing as he was hired at just 30 years old."

Michaels related McVay's career to long-time Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who won a Super Bowl in just his second season calling the shots. Michaels explained that the NFL had been trying to find the "next Mike Tomlin" for years. Now that McVay has made that wish come true, Michaels has a new outlook towards the future of NFL coaching.

"The NFL will now say 'find me the next Sean McVay,'" Michaels said.

As previously stated, the Rams are expected to struggle throughout this season. However, Michaels is a firm believer in McVay, as the young coach is "enjoying the hell out of" growing his team's mindset and development.

"I love working with this group because they want to be coached, they want to do right," McVay said in a recent press conference. "I think we've got really good leaders that have really modeled the way and shown them what it looks like. Ultimately, it's about us making it come to life when these games start to count."

Michaels is hoping McVay furthers his granted reputation this season, starting on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
