Los Angeles Rams Coach Sean McVay Provides Update on Key Running Back Injuries

The Los Angeles Rams will be without some key pieces at running back for at least a few weeks.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay released new details surrounding the team's running back injuries on Wednesday.

It was reported by ESPN on Wednesday that running back Kyren Williams is "expected to miss multiple games" after suffering an ankle injury late in the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Running back Ronnie Rivers was also injured in the game, and both players reportedly received an MRI on Monday.

McVay began his statement with a comment on Rivers before pivoting to an update on Williams.

“Yeah, we'll put Ronnie on IR," McVay said. "I don't know if that's officially out for you guys or not. Then we are discussing the plans as it relates to Kyren, but it's safe to say he will be ruled out for this week.”

The coach was also asked whether it was possible that Williams would miss "a couple of games" with his injury and if a trip to the IR is being considered for him as well.

“There's a possibility of that, yeah,” McVay said.

Williams rushed for 158 yards and a score against Arizona on Sunday, and with the injuries in the running back room, the Rams recently acquired some new faces to help alleviate those losses.

On Tuesday, they promoted running back Royce Freeman to the active roster from the practice squad. Taking his spot on the practice squad, for now, is running back Darrell Henderson. The Rams also signed veteran running back Myles Gaskin to the practice squad, per reports.

The Rams and their new-look running back unit will play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, and kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX.
