Sean McVay Commits to Los Angeles Rams 'Long-Term'

After an offseason of a rumored retirement, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has reaffirmed his commitment to the team "long-term."

Any concern that coach Sean McVay's time with the Los Angeles Rams is ending can be put to rest after an offseason where many expected the 37-year-old to take a "break" from the sidelines.

“You don’t ever want to sit here and act like you can predict the future, but it’s not something that I’m looking at as a short-term type of decision," McVay said recently about his retirement plans. "My plan is that this is something that I’m committed to for the long term.”

Much of the conversation surrounding the Rams as last season's end neared was centered around McVay's future. Despite being one of the youngest coaches in the league, there was speculation that McVay was suffering from burnout as the Rams looked ready to begin a rebuild. But what was the supposed plan for the offensive mastermind?

The rumor mill said McVay would put down one headset to pick up another, this time in the broadcast booth instead of on the sidelines.

Yet, that long-rumored early retirement announcement never came from McVay this offseason, as he returned for his sixth season in charge. Although McVay did reveal in a recent appearance on The Pivot podcast that those rumors of him debating retirement were true.

"Last year, it was real, only because I wanted to make sure that I could reset myself and get back to...the vibe I wanted to have [for the team]," McVay said.

Now, instead of watching from afar as the Rams attempt to bounce back from their Super Bowl hangover of a season that saw them finish with a 5-12 record, the 37-year-old will be on the sidelines calling the shots offensively.

With the regular season just five weeks away, fans can catch McVay's Rams for the first time on Saturday as they host the Las Vegas Raiders in SoFi Stadium for their first preseason game. The Rams and Raiders are set for a 6 p.m. (PT) kickoff.
