Los Angeles Rams Sign TE Tyler Higbee to New Contract

The Los Angeles Rams are locking in tight end Tyler Higbee with a new contract extension.

The Los Angeles Rams have signed tight end Tyler Higbee to a two-year contract extension on Friday, the team announced.

The deal is worth $27 million with $17 million guaranteed, per reports from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The deal has a max value of $30.5 million.

Higbee, 30, has been a contributor for the Rams' offense since being a fourth-round draft pick for the team in 2016 out of Western Kentucky. In 113 career games, he's caught 317 passes for 3,239 yards and 20 touchdowns. Last season, he finished fourth among tight ends with 72 catches.

A Super Bowl champion with the Rams in 2021, Higbee has played in eight postseason games.

Rams coach Sean McVay praised Higbee after L.A.'s 30-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

"Tyler Higbee, captain, guy that really is a glue guy for this football team," McVay said. "It was a huge play that he made 30 yards down the sideline with a good player in (Seahawks safety Julian) Love in coverage on him. He and Matthew (Stafford) had a great rapport on that route."

In three games this season, Higbee has posted 11 catches for 132 yards. He's currently uncertain to play in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts with an Achilles injury after missing Wednesday and Thursday's practice.

The Rams (1-2) will look for their second win of the season on the road against Indianapolis. While Higbee is uncertain. L.A. is still without star receiver Cooper Kupp, meaning the offense will have to rely on Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua at receiver.

Regardless of the current injuries, the Rams have their pass-catchers of the future.
