Rams Sign Carson Wentz in 'Full-Circle' Move; Can QB Save Career in Los Angeles?
Carson Wentz may have just joined the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, but it's far from his first connection to the franchise.
When Wentz came into the NFL in 2016, the Rams held the first overall pick in the draft after a massive trade up. The choice came down to either Wentz or Jared Goff, with the Rams opting to keep the Cal product in the Golden State. Meanwhile, Wentz, the North Dakota State phenom, went to the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 2 overall.
After an up-and-down rookie season with the Eagles, Wentz established himself as one of the league's up and coming stars in 2017. He likely would've won league MVP, if not for the fact that he tore his ACL in a late-season game against the Rams. As the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl anyway, it was backup quarterback Nick Foles getting the glory instead of Wentz.

Since that injury, Wentz has struggled to return to his past form. A poor 2020 season resulted in the Eagles shipping him off to the Indianapolis Colts, who then traded him to the Washington Commanders after just one year. After another poor season in the nation's capital, Wentz has been a free agent since his release in February.
Now, Wentz gets another chance with the team that initially passed him over and the one his career forever changed against. He'll be a backup to Matthew Stafford, who is currently recovering from a thumb injury, but the fact that he back in the NFL is a big step for him. ... and a chance to be tutored by Rams coach Sean McVay in a way that may save his career.
For how many times Wentz and the Rams have crossed paths, it only makes sense for them to finally be together.
