Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay is choosing to do things a bit differently this year — is that a surprise to absolutely anyone?

Ahead of the 2019 season, McVay is flipping the script with his approach to football, according to USA Today's Rams' Wire. The new plan is to focus more on walkthroughs and constructive practice sessions, with less full-speed work and chaotic preseason games.

According to Cameron DaSilva at Ram's Wire:

Instead of putting his top players in harm’s way during the preseason where so many stars get injured, he’s using joint practices with the Raiders and Chargers as substitutes for the four exhibition games.

“In a lot of ways, I think you can expect us to approach the preseason similar to the players that have played a lot of snaps, that we know are proven players in this league. Unless we feel necessary, they’re probably not going to participate in the preseason,” McVay said on the Doug Gottlieb Show

Beyond just the preseason, McVay plans to take this approach into September and continue to keep a lighter workload reserved for his veteran and proven assets. You can expect to see more days off, more walkthroughs, and hopefully fewer injuries.

McVay may not be the first coach to approach the game with this mindset, but there's a good chance that he will find a new angle on it. If he can make it work to the Rams benefit, expect more teams to follow suit in the future as well.
