Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh Reveals Approach For Lamar Jackson & Offense Next Season

Despite being one of the best offenses and quarterback Lamar Jackson winning his second MVP last season, head coach John Harbaugh still envisions changes to the unit next season.

Football is an ever-evolving game.

The teams who can continually add layers to their approach and do so successfully are often the ones who play beyond the regular season. Even with the success the Baltimore Ravens had on offense last season, including quarterback Lamar Jackson winning the second MVP of his career, head coach John Harbaugh is adamant about that unit continuing to grow next season.

"It'll look different, there's no doubt about that," Harbaugh said at the NFL Owners Meetings in Orlando. "That's the one thing we believe in – keeping it moving. You can never keep it the same."

Baltimore was fourth in points (28.4) and led the league in rushing yards (156.5) per game last season. The offense's success was spearheaded by Jackson, who threw for a career-high 3,678 yards and completed 67.2 percent of his passes, which was also his best to date, while also throwing 24 touchdowns. Jackson remained a dynamic threat on the ground as he ran for 821 yards, the most for a quarterback last season, and he scored five rushing touchdowns.

This offseason has been filled with more subtractions than additions on offense. Three of the Ravens' starting offensive linemen from 2023, John Simpson, Kevin Zeitler and Morgan Moses, have gone elsewhere. How the Ravens replace them will greatly impact how their offense operates next season.

Baltimore also signed running back Derrick Henry, who has been one of the best running backs in football for the last six seasons. He showed no signs of slowing down last season, running for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Henry, 30, already adds another dimension to the offense that will help it evolve next season. With him and Jackson sharing the backfield, their dynamic abilities on the ground can put opposing defenses in a bind, and Harbaugh believes that duo will be a strong foundation for the offense sustaining its success with an evolved approach from last season.

"Lamar is going to play the way Lamar plays, and that's what I'm for," Harbaugh said. "I love the way he plays the game. I think he's intuitive and intelligent, just a phenomenal football player. He sees the game in very unique ways and very smart ways, so I'm for him playing the way he plays. I think that Derrick Henry being there, plus Lamar, plus the other guys, it's a good formula."
